Désirée has been performing as a soloist and member of Aalim Dance Company since 2006. She has also performed as an official member of Aalim’s Arabian Silk since 2011. She began dancing at an early age; taking ballet and tap lessons and participating in studio performances throughout elementary school. These early experiences imbue her current dance style with an easy grace and fluidity. Désirée has also had formal training in a variety of musical instruments. She performed with her high school concert, pep, and marching bands, and as a member of a garage rock band. Her lifelong love of music has led her to develop a high level of skill with finger cymbals and she often incorporates these into her bellydance performances.

In addition, Désirée’s understanding of rhythm and melody also enhances her musicality as a dancer. Although Désirée has primarily studied with Aalim’s Director, Salwa, she has also completed workshops with internationally recognized bellydance artists such as Bozenka, Suhaila Salimpour, Aziza, Virginia Mendez, Jasmine Jahal, and Karen Barbee. Désirée most enjoys performing cabaret style bellydance and earthy folkloric styles. She can be seen performing regularly at many local venues including Nara Cafe & Hookah Lounge, Layla, Double Apple Hookah Bar, and Ranoush Restaurant.
